The Demise of State HWY 173

Thanks to El Nino, Lake Arrowhead has experienced above average rainfall, and warmer than average temperatures (meaning no snow).  Therefore, Lake Arrowhead (the actual lake) overflowed this winter and it was either flood all the lake houses or overflow the run-off creeks.  Unfortunately both have severe consequences, but the city decided to let the water run into the creeks which undermines the compromised mountain roads and creates exactly what you see above.  A huge mess!

Skiers and snowboarder may be interested to know that Highway 330 is also compromised to the same weather related damages.  However, since this damage occurred on the side of the mountain, I think it's going to take ALOT longer to fix.  Check out the gnarly pics here: http://rimoftheworld.net/6244

  1. These are amazing shots . . . you should submit to the L.A. Times, especially for their year-end in review.
